The monthly meeting of the Stanton Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday, October 4, 2010, at Overtime Bar and Grill. The meeting was called to order by President Zeb McFarland.

J Ashley: Updated the members on a survey that the citizens are asked and encouraged to take. This will help gather input and results will be available to the public. The survey can be downloaded on the school’s website. All surveys need to be completed by November 19. Surveys can also be picked up at the post office, Great Western Bank, and Viking View.

Child Resource Center
Hart: A fundraising supper was held for the storm shelter. There are 24 kids that are currently enrolled in the 3 yr old room/PS.
D. Rossander: A new pole solar light at the cemetery will be from Memorial Day to Veteran’s Day.

M Kennon: Shared information on the Haunted House that will be at the Heritage Center put on by the Spanish Club.
Can visit www.stantonfriends.com for the latest news and updates. Stephanie Burke updated the Chamber on Walk to School Day that the Stanton Friends are promoting on October 11. She also passed along tentative rules for the Stanton Friends Community Fitness Center located on Main Street. Anticipated opening the facility in November after final details are being worked out. Continue to work on grants.
Brian Hopf/Optimist Request and Update : Brian Hopf shared with the Chamber that the Optimist Club will be dissolving. The Club wanted to discuss the option of having the Chamber take over some annual events/duties the Optimist Club did. Some include running the third grade snack store, managing an annual scholarship and sport tournament play. The Optimist Club wants to see that these activities continue as well as the chamber members. There is an estimated balance of $3,000 in the organization’s account. Judd Ashley made a motion for the Chamber to accept the funding source and the Chamber determines how the funds will be allocated. Second by Brian Hopf and all in favor. Motion passed. The Optimist Club balance will be transferred in a savings/special account for the Chamber to manage.
Trick or Treat on the Trail- This will be on Saturday, October 30, 2010 starting at 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Trick or Treat at the Care Center will be from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Community Halloween will be on Saturday, October 30 as well. There are also plans for a haunted house sponsored by the Spanish Club. If you are interested in participating in this event or would like to donate treats/goodies, please contact Carrie Nimrod or Jacque Bates.
