Stanton Friends of Stanton Iowa is pleased to announce the construction of the all New Viking Center. The construction for the project will begin around the 1st of April 2013 and projected grand opening in December 2013.
The Stanton Viking Center project is the construction of a 140' x 112' two-story structure designed to house a number of public facilities, which have been cited by residents as the primary needs of the community. These include a public library, preschool, multi-purpose/community room with a catering kitchen, health/wellness facility, gymnasium, and FEMA-approved storm shelter with generator in case of severe weather or disaster in the community. Both levels of the building will have handicapped accessible entrances at the ground level.
Overall project work includes site demolition and preparation; utility connections; drilling of well fields/installation of a geothermal system; and exterior/interior construction of a 25,350 square-foot building, which will be a composite of concrete, wood and frame steel.
Additionally, the facility will house a general lobby on the upper level; three offices; three public restrooms; locker rooms; and several mechanical/storage areas.
According to Stanton Friends Co-Chairmen Chuck Truka and Mickey Anderson over four hundred residents, families, alumni, businesses and foundations have given towards the capital campaign. The support has been truly amazing. The committee is still pursuing gifts for some of the interior amenities.
To save costs and increase the center's overall efficiency, the building will utilize green construction techniques and existing infrastructure (parking lot, roads, and utilities). Overall construction costs have been bid at $3,200,149.
